The Welsh Government has launched a consultation into revised guidance on teaching reading in the early years.
If you’ve listened to our recent podcasts or followed our social media activity, you’ll know there has been a big discussion about teaching reading in Wales.
This stems from an ITV News report that revealed discredited methods such as cueing were being used in Wales’ schools, encouraged by Estyn reports, local authority professional learning and Welsh Government guidance.
Now, the Welsh Government has clarified its guidance to schools about how to teach early reading, and is consulting on those changes.

If you care about how reading is taught in Wales, you have until 20th December to respond to the consultation. Welsh Government have extended this deadline from the original date of November 22nd.
